Snack Stash pt. 2

Get to know Felix's favorite things to keep in a "snack stash"!

As I was wondering what to write about this week, I found myself looking through old blogs from years past… Here’s my spin on this blog from 2016 about the best dorm snacks!

As I’m a first-year and therefore on the 20-swipe meal plan (3 meals at the dining halls each day, 2 on Sundays), I don’t need a ton of supplemental snacks. However, it is nice to be able to skip a dining hall trip once in a while and stay in your dorm for dinner, especially if it’s raining! And it’s always a good feeling when you can have some chocolate after doing a tricky homework assignment. Here are some of my favorite things to keep in my room just in case:

  • Kefir: this is a yogurt drink we always have in stock back at home. It’s great if you need a small snack in the mornings, especially if you don’t want to walk around or exercise on an empty stomach!
  • Granola and trail mix: I love to mix granola into my kefir as a little extra something to keep me going. I also like to snack on granola and trail mix (cashews are great, providing you’re not allergic) while I write my blogs and essays.
  • Hot chocolate ingredients: milk, hot chocolate powder, marshmallows, cinnamon, and some instant coffee powder… this is my perfect hot chocolate! My roommate and I keep these ingredients stocked so that we can enjoy some hot cocoa on those colder evenings (I’m looking forward to this happening more and more often next term!)

  • Microwave meals: for those occasions where I accidentally miss my dinner or lunch time slot, or it’s more convenient for me to stay in my room, or even if I just get hungry. My microwave meals of choice are fettuccine alfredo and cheddar broccoli!
  • Cheez-Its: the original “Snack Stash” blog couldn’t have said it better — Cheez-Its are an old faithful option for late nights.
  • Sweets: obviously, last but not least. Especially as Halloween approaches, I like to have some candies to share with friends, and I also have gotten cookies in the mail a couple of times (thank you to my grandparents!)

So, there you have it. My trusty (and tasty) choices — for now! However, I’m always open to new snack ideas, and I’m excited to see what some other tried-and-true options are.
